Objective To investigate the spectrum of major chronic diseases among elderly. Methods A survey among health examination population was conducted in a third grade hospital in Beijing, between March 2015 and July 2015. Results A total of 658 elderly (60-102 years, mean age was 72.5±9.7 years) were included in the study. The percentage of current smoking and current alcohol drinking were 13.1% and 50.3% respectively. The prevalence of chronic diseases was 86.2%, and the prevalence went up to 92.0% among participants aged ≥80 years old. The average number of chronic diseases was 2.4 + 1.7 kinds. About 67.0% of the population had at least 2 or more chronic diseases. With the increase of age, the number of chronic diseases in the elderly with chronic disease showed a gradually increasing trend (p<0.001). The detection rate of hypertension, diabetes and dyslipidemia increased 7.6%, 0.2% and 10.0% through the physical examination. Conclusion The prevalence of chronic disease was high among this physical examination population, and the prevalence increased with age group. Considering the severe comorbidity and high percentage of unhealthy lifestyles, it’s important to carry out early prevention and treatment measurers. |
