Abstract:
Melatonin, a hormone with multiple functions, can activate a vast array of complex signaling pathways by binding specific receptors, thus protecting the heart against ischemia/reperfusion injury. This review summarizes on the melatonin receptors, the probable mechanism of melatonin-induced myocardial protection, and its therapeutic application and clinical research.
